2020 CLD Teacher of the Year
from Houston, TX and Texas CLD Member
Kellian currently Special Education Math and Reading Facilitator who works with teachers who support students in math, and conducts research on improving middle school math for students with disabilities. As a graduate student at the University of Houston, his research focuses on what math teachers know about adapting instruction to meet the needs of students with learning disabilities in their classroom and what special education teachers know about math. Their answers show the gulf between what math teachers need to know to adapt and what special ed teachers know about math - it is no wonder that students with learning disabilities can struggle in math class. He will have plenty of opportunities to improve the outcomes for students with learning disabilities who are taught math in general education classrooms and support their teachers' professional development as he moves forward to the next phase of his educational career.
